This page is updated frequently, so be careful. There are spoilers abound here.

Detective Comics: After a body is discovered in the docks, it’s found to be that of The Shark of the Terrible Trio. Batman seeks the Fox, who tells him of “The Fourth Man” picking off the old gang. Interrogator and quarry are both besieged by this mysterious murderer, seeking blood. A very good story by McGraw with equitable artwork to boot. 9/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Batman: “You remember the Terrible Trio?”

Alfred: “I recall three malcontents in fright masks who proved keener in their attempts at alliteration than larceny.”

Batman: Broken and bleeding, Batman’s only hope is…a hooker. Okay, but that doesn’t mean I support legalizing it. Anywho, Alfred and Tim arrive to tend to Bruce’s injuries in on of his safe houses. Or in this case, safe-penthouse. Drake leaves in a huff after the bruiser in a bad bat-mask, and Bruce reveals to Alfred a startling connection the recent faux Batmen have to a past experience. This also deals with Damien, so that's also a plus. 10/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Batman: “What’s the one thing an alpha male is programmed to respect? Alpha male plus.”

Robin:  After narrowly escaping the drugged up gang, Robin uncovers more about the company Strader, by going there as Tim Drake. After some deductive liberties and checking in on Alex, the meta-gang is next. Now, there is a cameo by a certain heroine-stupidly-turned-evil here. What is wrong with DC? I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: TURN. CASS. BACK. 8/10 Sporks up

Best Issue Quote: Robin Narrative: “Nice car. Roomy. Windshield needs some work, though.”

Batgirl: "Batgirl can't be alive! She was impaled by Mad Dog!" Well, folks, when you're talkin' about comics, death is not always forever. As expected (and hoped) Batgirl was revived by the Lazarus Pit. The Spoiler makes for a BAD grim reaper. After getting over that pesky follow-up on insanity, Cassandra learns about her mother and the events leading up to her birth. It doesn't end there, 'cause we still have a Shiva/Cassie throwdown to get too. Sadly, much like with Gotham Knights, Batgirl seems to end at the tender issue of 73. I know it ended a long time ago, but I can't bring myself to get rid of this review, not after how they basically shot her character to Hell. Issue and series get an overall 10/10 Sporks up

Best Issue Quote: Batgirl-"Oh, Cain took it."

Shiva-"You see that?"

Batgirl-"I know his eye. As he hunts."

Nightwing: I've dropped this book for now. Wolfman wasn't cutting it for me, telling tales in three issues that would've worked better in two. Just not worth $2.99 anymore. And what the Hell is with Jason's letter? "Oh, I'm all better now. Nope, not psychotic after you saved my life. All cured. Hugs and kisses!" Ugh. 7/10 Sporks up

Best Issue Quote: PENDING

JLA: Canary manages to keep Arrow from killing Batman, but things only escalate when the embodiment of Envy decides to have some fun. When all is said and done, though, what will be done with the Key? And, is it me, or does Ollie use Batman's real name A LOT in the presence of a super villain? Sadly, this seems to be final issue of JLA. For now. Whether it begins again after Infinite Crisis with 126 or another #1, I'm betting they won't keep the JLA gone for now. 9/10 Sporks up

Best Issue Quote: Batman-"A small, petty little hedonist with a PATHETICALLY outdated Errol Flynn fixation."

Green Arrow-"How cutting...if only it weren't coming from a man in a mouse outfit."

Superman/Batman:  A group of armed men led by a powerful brute attack a WayneTech building, and Batman intervenes to take them down, but not without a price. Since their leader is Metallo, Superman is called in for assistance. Now, what would all of this have to do with the Metal Men? Unless I missed some caption, it didn’t appear as if Bats and Supes knew Doc Magnus…yet if you read Justice recently…eh. Whatever. It’s still an interesting read. 8/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Batman: “You killed people tonight. Stole fathers away from their children. Whatever you want, you’ll have to come through me to get it. Please. Try.”

Superman: Big Blue searches for the mysterious “third Kryptonian” from when the Auctioneer mentioned several months back. He also contemplates the words of Arion, and the grim future he witnessed. He even checks with Zatanna, who’s apparently traded a hot-yet-dignified feminine suit for a dominatrix look. Afterwards, he heads to Iran, and an old friend he hasn’t yet encountered. 9/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue QuoteSuperman Narrative: “Even Perry thinks of me to some degree as an outsider, who might be robbing humanity of its independence. Not Jimmy, though. Never Jimmy.”

Action Comics: Still forgetting that whole deal with Supes in the Phantom Zone and evil Kryptonians led by Zod (whuh?), Superman battles Redemption. They seem to be a match until the latter’s shoulder gets separated. Redemption gets away as Supes checks back in Nyasir. Reflecting on his own faith experiences, he consults an old friend before deciding just before realizing how to deal with a religious super-zealot. I liked this story, as it kept Superman faithful, in his personal way. It showed how those of faith can be misled, if a little dramatized. 9/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Barbara Johnson: “Someone of TRUE faith…they know in their heart the simple difference between helpin’ others…or just helpin’ themselves…”

All Star Superman: When going to Bizarro World is too much work, bring Bizarro World to you. A strange epidemic strikes Metropolis, and maybe the world (who cares about Iowa anyway?), wherein Bizarros begin to copy and infect those they touch, and that includes the Man of Steel. The way this first part left off, I’m eager for issue 8. 8/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue QuoteCat Grant: “Mister James Bartholomew Olsen, you dare not expect me to clamber aboard this aerial deathtrap in these heels!”

Jimmy: “Aw, come on, Ms. Grant. Even Perry could do it those heels.”

Justice: The League members are worse for wear and barely escape with their lives. Diana chases off Cheetah, Martian Manhunter gathers his bearings, and Captain Marvel saves Superman from Grundy, Bizarro, Parasite and Metallo. Nowhere else to turn, Marvel takes Supes to the one man able to help the Man of Steel: The Dark Knight himself. But what Superman discovers in the Batcave only makes things worse.  10/10 Sporks Up.

Best Issue Quote: Billy -"It's MAGIC lightning, anyhow."

Batman - "Oh, MAGIC lightning. That makes it OKAY, then."

Astonishing X-Men:  All but two X-Men arrive to the prophetic wall that shows Rasputin destroying the Breakworld. From there, they split into teams while Colossus and Kitty run through a Breakworld city, only to be…saved? Hate Peter, help Peter, PICK ONE, already! Joss Whedon continues to rock with great twists. 10/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Breakworld woman: “…I don’t think compassion is a sin. I think it may be a mutation.”

X-Men: Rogue’s life teeters as Cable bonds with the strange neurological entity to find a way to stop the bigger, meaner, stranger entity from destroying his utopia. This band of X-Men has their hands full, and Sabretooth isn’t helping. The conclusion should be interesting. 8/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Cannonball: “Ah’m gonna see if I can do some heart surgery.”

Uncanny X-Men: Darwin leaps into the M’Kraan Crystal to save Professor X. Vulcan has murdered D’Ken and takes his places as Shi’ar emperor. Blinded by hate and power, the corpses pile up, and it doesn’t matter who they are. The X-Men’s ranks shall change dramatically, but for better or worse? This was a great story that left much potential open for future ass-kickery.  8/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Vulcan: “Haven’t you learned by now, Lilandra, that your people prefer a mad empreror?”

Ultimate X-Men: Nightcrawler has scoured the sewers for the Morlocks, and now he’s found them. Narrowly proving himself to join their ranks, his new life is jeopardized by an unexpected recruiter from his old home. Meanwhile, a new X-team is being formed by Bishop and Storm. I’m not thrilled about this version of Nightcrawler, but it’s not main canon, so I'm mostly fine with it, to a degree. 7/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Bobby: “We used to have a JET.”

Amazing Spider-Man: In a new black suit, Spidey sets out on a literal manhunt for the man that shot his uncle. He busts heads, asks questions, and may or may not have tossed someone out a window. A bit more may. Aunt May hangs by a thread while Pete exacts revenge. A departure from typical Spidey, but so is a comatose May Parker. 10/10 Sporks up

Best Issue Quote: Spidey Narrative: “I want him to know what it feels like to be hunted. Cornered. Outgunned. Doomed.”

Ultimate Spider-Man: Spider-Man wakes up tied to a chair, maskless (again) and at Wilson Fisk’s mercy. The Kingpin goes into a spiel about what he knows and who he owns. Spidey is none too happy with all this, particularly when he’s told Daredevil played him for a patsy. 10/10 Sporks up

Best Issue Quote: Kingpin: “I own you.”

Ultimates: FINALLY! Issue 13 arrives to wrap up this arc. Thor shows his drumming skills with his hammer and Loki’s head, but that doesn’t keep a hoard or ogres and giant wolves at his beck and call from raising Hell. Are combined forces of super-teams enough to win? By book’s end, changes occur that MAY be enough for me to collect more, if they do ish 14 or Ultimates Volume 3. Not bad, but DAMN if it wasn’t late as Hell. 7/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Captain America: “TAKE’EM DOWN!

Ultimates Annual: Funny this came out months before 13, the issue it’s set AFTER. During the clean up of the devastating battle, Captain America is alerted to the resurrected threat of Arnim Zola. He and Sam make tracks to the middle of the country, sharing cultural and emotional differences. Race becomes a large part of this story, without being overly preachy. 7/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: “There are people suited to the HEAVY lifting…someone has to look after the dead.”

Wolverine Origins: Using a nearby fire as a distraction, Logan breaks into a bank to retrieve the carbonadium synthesizer. There, he meets with Daken, his son. A family mutilation erupts, and the upper hand keeps changing. Then, we get another contender in the bout. 6/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Daken: “Daddy? Will you play with me?”

Civil War: What can I say? It was an involving story that was great added with Straczynski's Spider-Man. The final battle was immense and it's conclusion shocking. The end of Frontline has left me suspicious of Iron Man, and the follow-ups "Initiative" and "The Confession" are nice add-ons, too (when did Ms. Marvel get hot, by the way?). It'll be interesting to see how the Marvel Universe lives through THIS. 9/10 Sporks Up

Other

Transformers: Prime’s down, and it’s up to the other Autobots to stop Megatron. They also have to keep the human Facsimile intact for analysis. Meanwhile, Ironhide and Ratchet race to keep Verity and Jimmy from going boom. So…what happened to O’Nion? 10/10 Sporks Up.

Best Issue QuotePENDING

Gargoyles: Halloween comes to Manhatten, and the home of David Xanatos. Costumed citizens mingle and chat with costumed…gargoyles. Elisa even stops with her date, Goli…I mean…Morgan. Wow. Well, Goliath DID show up. Is that...oh, right. Delilah. This is going to be AW-kward. Let’s check with the Labyrinth, I’m sure it’s…oh. Right. Thailog. Hm. Weisman’s done a fine job of replacing the Goliath Chronicles in comic form. Keep it comin’, man. 10/10 Sporks Up

Best Issue Quote: Margot: “I especially love this post-modern Tin Man…”

Lex: “Excuse me? Cyborg.”

The comics mentioned are properties of their respective companies. The Spork Rating System is as followed: 1-3 Up---Not worth my time. 4-6 Up---Pretty good, though I may have problems with art or writing or plot. 7-9---Great stuff, worth the price increase. 10---HOT DAMN, THIS KICKS ASS! If a book gets sporks down...I guess that's self-explanitory.
